CargoFusion is an AI logistics platform built by Sagan Labs AI that turns an ordinary smartphone into a freight-dimensioning tool. It is AI for logistics companies that replaces a $35,000 hardware dimensioner: point a phone at a package and it captures the dimensions, reads the carrier label, and validates the dimensional weight before the shipment ever leaves the dock. For freight forwarders and 3PLs, it makes accurate supply chain AI something you carry in your pocket instead of bolt to a warehouse floor.
The Problem
Freight forwarders have exactly two ways to measure a package, and both are broken. Option one is a Cubiscan-class dimensioning machine: roughly $35,000 of fixed hardware that only measures where it is installed. Option two is a tape measure and a keyboard — slow, and wrong often enough to matter. Manual dimensioning runs about four minutes per package, and a small but persistent error rate turns into re-bills, chargeback disputes, and margin that quietly leaks out of every shipment.
For a mid-size forwarder moving hundreds or thousands of packages a day, neither option scales. The capital expense is hard to justify per site, the manual path can't keep up at volume, and both leave the same gap: no fast, trustworthy check that the dimensional weight on the label matches the box in your hand.
Our Approach
We built CargoFusion around the device every warehouse worker already has. A dual-model AI pipeline does the work: a vision model measures the package from the phone's camera — an augmented-reality bounding box captures length, width, and height — while a document-AI layer reads the carrier label to extract the tracking number, recipient, and stated dimensional weight. The system cross-references the two and flags any discrepancy before submission, so errors are caught at the source instead of in a billing dispute weeks later.
The product is trilingual from day one (English, Portuguese, Spanish) because logistics is a cross-border business, and it is designed to sit alongside a forwarder's existing carrier relationships rather than replace them. The result is a workflow a new operator can learn in minutes: scan, verify, submit.
Architecture Highlights
- Dual-model AI core. A vision model (Gemini 2.5-class) handles real-time dimensioning; a Vision Transformer plus OCR handles label reading and validation — two specialized models rather than one generalist, each tuned to its job.
- Phone-first capture. Dimensioning happens on-device through the camera with an AR overlay, removing the fixed-hardware dependency entirely.
- Clean product split. A public marketing and onboarding surface is kept separate from the operational admin and tracking application, so the customer-facing experience stays fast and simple.
- Containerized, portable deployment. The platform ships as containerized services behind a managed proxy with automatic SSL, so it deploys the same way in any environment.
- Built for discovery. The public product is structured for both search engines and AI answer engines (structured data, sitemaps, an
llms.txt), reflecting how logistics buyers actually research tools today.
